Karate Fun

These last 6 weeks at Eastwood, Sam has taken a karate class every Tuesday, from Mr. Webster. His last class I got to pick him up and see what he had learned. He has really enjoyed taking this class with his friends (William, Ben, Dakota, and Hayden) and wanted to do it again the last 6 weeks, but T-ball is gearing up and we thought it might be a little too much. He has had great Karate FUN!

Weekend Part II

We were out of school on Monday for President's Day, so we already had a plan for the day. We (all the grand kids minus Jordan and Patrick, Heather, Michelle, and myself) were going to show up for Papa's chemo treatment and surprise him with "YOU CAN DO IT PAPA" shirts- made by my friend Tara (Smitten & Co.). The grand kids all gathered in the waiting room until we got permission by the nurse to go in and see where Papa was, they all were holding hands- priceless. I know Papa was a little overwhelmed but I do think it made his day. He is now down to single digits for radiation/chemo treatments. I know he can do it!!

Weekend Part I

Wow what a weekend. Shawn, Sam, and I headed to Birmingham on Valentine's Day (Penny is with Aunt Michelle and Callie-more on that later). Shawn was running in his first half-marathon with his sister, Heather and brother-n-law, David in the Mercedes Marathon. We got to Birmingham early Saturday afternoon- this gave us time for them to go pick up their running packets and look around at the expo. Then Shawn, David, and Heather decided they needed to Ride the Route- so I took Sam down to the indoor pool. I think he swam for 2 hours or more(till his eyes were so RED) That night we meet up with other Decatur runners for dinner at the Sheraton (where we stayed) they had to get their "carbs". No late night for anyone -

Sunday morning came early - Shawn got up to get ready to meet everyone down in the lobby around 6:15 to walk over to the start of the race.

Shawn, Heather, David, and I wore "Livestrong" shirts to honor Papa (he and Nana were suppose to be there but he got sick on Friday and was not able to come- check that blog for more updates on him). The race started at 7:00- I was really nervous for Shawn (he had been fighting a hurt leg - that has keep him from running for almost 4 weeks and sore throat). But I know my husband when he says he is going to do something HE WILL DO IT!! The race started and after Shawn and Heather past, Sam and I had to go find breakfast.On our way back to the hotel for breakfast we spotted the runners on another road - so Sam and I took off running hoping to see them once again- Guess what we found them Shawn, Heather, and Patrick were still running together around mile 2 - yeah Shawn is still running with his hurt leg and seems to be ok.(that is them in the back with the yellow shirts)

Now for our breakfast.

We hurried and ate and then back out to watch the finish of the race. David was the first one in with a time of 1hour 34 minutes. (personal best)

Then Heather came in around 1 hour 54 minutes. Way to Go Heather!

Within another 5 minutes I noticed a yellow shirt and hat rounding the last curve and I told Sam to look I think it might be daddy- Yes it was!!! Go daddy we started yelling Go daddy- I had another lady beside me even yelling for him. He came in at 2 hours flat (but by his watch under 2 hours). He did it - running the whole time !! Way to Go daddy!!

Math Night/Book Fair @Eastwood

Last night Sam and I went to Eastwood for math night and to look around at the book fair. (daddy stayed home with Penny, she was not feeling well). Sam was really excited about the math game that we were about to play, On and Off. Then we had to look at there Venn Diagram and write in his math journal about all the data. I love to go into his classroom and see everything that he does and am completely blown away at the things that he has learned from his teacher.

After leaving his classroom we went to the library where the book fair was going on- Sam found LOTS of books he wanted. We manged to get out of there with a couple of books and even bought one for his teacher. He could not wait to give it to her at school.

Fun Weekend

This past weekend felt like spring outside- Shawn headed to the golf course and so we (jordan, sam, and penny) headed to Bridgestreet for some of this:

100th day of School

Today was the 100th day of school for Sam. It almost brought tears to my eyes thinking what all he has learned in kindergarten these 100 days. He has had so much fun and made some many friends. On this 100th day they had to bring 100 items in a zip-lock bag for math activities, he brought 100 golf tees. They also enjoyed snacks to celebrate this special day! Thanks Mrs.Hand for a great 100 days- looking forward to the next 80 days.



Sam has homework every night now (since Christmas) tonight he had a story to practice reading. He enjoyed the story tonight so much that he wanted to go over and read to Nana and Papa (he said this might make papa feel better- update Papa started Chemo today).
